Google vs ChatGPT

Comparing ChatGPT and Google, which are two systems with AI inputs that can answer users' queries. ChatGPT uses a dialogue-based, human-like interaction, while Google Follows the traditional route of comparing a user's query with billions of web pages and providing the most relevant results based on the web of connections to particular pages(see Google PageRank algorithm). ChatGPT has several advantages over Google, including its human-like response and the precise nature of its answers, as well as its ability to assist in code debugging and perform tasks such as drafting a contract or compiling a travel itinerary. However, ChatGPT also has several limitations, including its lack of knowledge beyond 2021 and serious accuracy issues, and its inability to access the internet. The text also mentions that while ChatGPT is currently available for free, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, may monetize it in the future.

Criteria ChatGPT Google Winner Comments
Internet Access No Yes Google Google is a clear winner on this feature. ChatGPT could provide access to the internet but it may damage the operating model completely
Cost Free Free Both Google searching is done without any direct cost - but since the customer base is sold in segments to advertisers it can be argued that there is an indirect cost. ChatGPT has no cost currently in its Beta phase, but it is expected that the service will be monetized in similar way to Google (adverts sold on Bing) or by charging for results as is done on GPT itself now
Accuracy Accuracy not guaranteed As accurate as the source content Google Google leads the way on accuracy, not surprising given it's long lead time compared to ChatGPT and the way its shares info but doesn't synthesize content or make any jusgements on the right answers to customer questions. The current Beta program is opening up ways for humans to provide input so that ChatGPT answers can be more correct, like Wikipedia.
Ease of Use Iterative requests sent via Chat are close to how humans refine their knowledge and understanding of a Topic. This accounts for the huge demand for ChatGPT services and interest in using for solving multiple challenges. Google is now a verb which reflects the way its style of searching content has become an accepted activity. ChatGPT ChatGPT provides an incredible user experience when it used in iterative style to delve into a topic and refine the answers to be complete, specific and useful. Google cannot match this user experience and there is no sense that Google is acting as anything but a very large filing cabinet which randomly selects contsnt which humans need to review.
Ownership ChatGPT thinks it owns all generated content for which humans have submitted 'prompts'. GPT policies and user conditions say the opposite. Google doesn't produce content so there is nothing to own. ChatGPT Since Google doesn't producce any content it's not a concern currently - but this may change if/when Google adds Chat and AI to Search. ChatGPT issues answers when questioned, but thnese cannot be relied on. The company policy for OpenAI is quite clear and simple, but expect this to be tested when issues of plagiarism and IP theft arise in future.
Privacy ChatGPT is very new and its not clear what will be their business model or how they will treat customer data. For now we can assume they will operate in similar way as other arge tech companies, mining customer data and selling access based on what customers share. Its unlikely that ChatGPT will go to same lengths as search enginess like DuckDuckGo which do not store user queries or results ever. Google has a very well-establoshed, long-running business model based on reviewing customer content (search, chat, email) and delivering adverts accordingly. Google protects individual user accounts but sells user data on macro level to all advertisers. Both Neither cusrrently protects user privacy and possibly neither will in future for commercial reasons
